Hello my gracious, and patient readers,
My apologies for being so quiet on the blog front. I have been working away with college classes and my new job. I have to admit I had succumbed to the inevitable writer's block and it took me a while to dig myself out. The summer of 2013 is here and I hope that everyone had an amazing Independence Day! Here's what's new on my end: While still working and taking full time classes online for Southern New Hampshire, I've managed to be awarded a certificate and a place on the President's List for the Spring of 2013. Link will be posted on my blog page so you can all take a gander.
I've also been given the opportunity to blog for where I work, and have the possibility of getting a short story published in an anthology with some fellow classmates, in which the proceeds will go to charity. I find myself struggling to find the time to write these days, and now with a July 31st deadline it seems as though I may not find the time to even write a short story by then. Exciting, but daunting. Also, if a certain avenue opens up I may also be writing pieces about Star Wars that would go up on the web. Both of these opportunities are strictly that...opportunities, should I be chosen and/or get something in on time. Who knew going to school full time and working could be so difficult? Even the boyfriend takes a backseat...(sorry honey)
On a more serious note, if you find yourself wanting to write and have no time then take a few moments at night to at least jot down your ideas. With all the smart phones and technology available there's no excuse for not writing down some notes for yourself to expand on later.
Once I find out the outcome of my two avenues that have opened up...you'll all be the first to know!
With that being said, what are your summer plans? Anything new for you in creative writing? How about my geek fans? San Diego Comic Con is soon, if only I could go. Well, comment below and fill me in on your 2013 summer plans.
If you haven't already, be sure to like me on Facebook for any upcoming news, as well as to support your fellow writer!
Stay nerdy my friends!

Kresely Cole "Poison Princess" Inspiration
"Poison Princess" the first book in Kresley Cole's Arcana Chronicles series was released October 2nd, 2012. In this Youtube video, Kresley talks about her inspiration for her new series. She is mostly known for her Immortals After Dark book series, but it was geared for adult readers. The Arcana Chronicles is Cole's attempt to write teen fiction. What intrigues me about this video is that Kresley Cole could have easily kept writing for adults, but instead she builds her target audience to teens. She's an exceptional author, and is now broadening her skills into other genres.
She truly is an inspiration to aspiring writers. Kresley proves that an author doesn't have to write just one genre or that they have to stick to one target audience. Cole isn't the first author to attempt this method. J.K Rowling also writes two different genres with separate target audiences, as well as Stephen King who not only writes horror, but non fiction and short stories as well.
Kresley Cole's Arcana Chronicles embarks on a fresh and exciting topic. She used her interest in Tarot cards as a backdrop for developing characters, and a story never been told before. Writers would do well to take note of Cole's process, and expand their own horizons starting with their own personal interests. Stories can come from anywhere and anything.

Kresly Cole's Facebook Presence
As an aspiring writer, I find it useful to visit the Facebook page of my favorite authors. Not only does it support similar writers like me, but it provides good examples of what I should be doing as a writer trying to market myself. I started with researching the Facebook pages of Carrie Fisher, J.K. Rowling, and Kresley Cole. Ultimately, I decided to critique Kresley Cole's page and see how she goes about socially leaving an imprint.
You can find her page at: https://www.facebook.com/KresleyCole
What Cole makes sure she does is stay social. She is constantly posting on her Facebook, although she doesn't usually respond to what people ask her. That is something she should work on. When an author responds to a fan post directly, it shows that they're interested in their fans and wants to make them feel recognized. Now an author or public icon and celebrity may not have time to respond to every comment or question a fan asks, occasionally it would be a good idea to respond to an individual directly. One good rule for an author to do is to write a post addressing the issue with a tight schedule but answers some questions their fans have asked. That way it continues to show the author cares and wants to keep their fans happy.
Kresley Cole is also very natural in her posts. She is professional, but also has her own voice. On Valentine's Day she posted that someone reminded her what day it was, but that she could never forget Valentine's Day and she asked her fans if they had any special plans, and informed her audience that she was working on a new romance novel. She developed her own style of posting on Facebook, which is fun and light hearted, but also informative.
Cole is also an active poster, which is vital to any icon's Facebook page. She posts just about every day, and it's usually content about upcoming books she's working on, or contests for her fans. She's a writer who knows how important it is to stay current and up to date.
My concern though, is that she doesn't post about anything other than her own work. It is vital that a writer, aspiring or published, supports other writers. She could do this by posting links to other writers she knows or maybe useful tips for her fans who aspire to write like her. It would also be beneficial for her to talk about ebooks and the process of being published. Too much focus on ones self isn't always a good thing. The more a writer supports other authors, the more other authors will support that said writer. Overall it's a good social page, but could use some more diversity in posts and response to fans questions.

Superbowl 2013 Commerical Countdown
This year I didn't know who was playing in the super bowl until the game started. I just wanted to see the commercials in between the hairy beasts tackling one another. Usually there are the commercials that make me crack up, while others make me shake my head in wonder. This time it was a mixture of laughter and wanting to vomit. Here are my top three:
The Go Daddy one really made me want to run for the hills. Two people making out is disgusting to watch on it's own, but this was in a whole other category. Super model Bar Refaeli, whom men drool over is sitting next to a very nerdy looking guy. Supposedly Bar is suppose to represent the sexy side and the guy is the smart side. Either way, I knew it was going to end badly. Go Daddy tries to make us think that what they offer is sexy and smart like combining the super model and the nerdy guy. Their on screen kiss is enough to make the devil blush, especially when they zoom in. I was stuck between laughing and gagging.
Speaking of stuck, Hyundai's "Stuck" commercial features a couple in their new Hyundai, and they have to pass other odd drivers on the road. The best part was the heavyset biker with his plumbers crack showing. He blows a kiss to the female in the car as they pass by, which tickled my funny bone enough to snap a photo and prank my best friend. I told her I saw this guy on the road today and when he asked for my number, I gave him hers instead. You only live once, so why not live on the edge?
Taco Bell understands that concept and that was their focus in their ad. I wasn't sure what I was watching until the old man jumped out of his bed in the retirement home and met his buddies who were waiting outside. The group of oldies sneak into someones yard and goes swimming, light fire crackers at sleeping people's homes, getting tattoos, hooking up in nightclub bathrooms, and one of the old men pulls up his shirt and rubs his chest against a diner window while people are eating. All of that going on while "We are Young," is played in Spanish throughout the commercial. In the end when the cops drive by and see them eating tacos by their car outside a Taco Bell, they just drive by and disregard them as disturbing the peace. This ad left me shocked, but hysterical. We all think older people have no sense of adventure or just don't have it in them anymore, but that part of being a crazy kid never leave us in old age.
Kudos to the companies that produced ads this year that will make me laugh for ages. It's truly an inspiration to see creative minds come together and develop even a 30 second ad that can entertain the public. It shows me there is hope as a writer to be able to produce something comedic.

Capricious Cory and Her Path to Creative Writing
I may be a writer, or so I'd like to think, but I've never been skilled in writing about myself. I could say that I reside in Marlboro, NJ with my family, four cats and two dogs, and that I enjoy long walks on the beach during sunset, but wouldn't that just be generic? I suppose whenever a reader wants to learn about the writer they're a fan of, they want to see something compelling. Perhaps, that's what I look for when I read about my favorite authors.
So you want to know to my story? I'm 29 years old, immensely sarcastic, and sometimes too brutally honest for my own good. How did I get that way you wonder. Well, I was always different from other kids while I was growing up. I was home schooled till I was in 5th grade. I actually really enjoyed being home schooled by my mother. It was when my father decided my brother and I had to go to Catholic school, that caused the idea of "school" to leave a nasty residue in my mind. Ironically, I still am religious, and later on in my early adult years, I became Born Again Christian. At this point you're thinking I'm some radical religious nut that insists everyone share my beliefs and outlook on life. Wrong! I'm actually a "true" Christian, and I try not to judge people, and accept that I am who I am, and everyone else are who they chose to be.
After my first year in Catholic school, I was offered to become a nun and it would be completely paid for. That meant the end of my quest to find Prince Charming, (still a work in progress). Come 7th grade I was thrust into public school. What a reality check! I had short hair, because I hated trying to maintain it and I wore the clothes I felt comfortable in ie: t-shirt and jeans. Apparently, this was all wrong according to my classmates, and so the bullying commenced. Eventually my parents divorced, which caused my mother to work 2-3 jobs to support my brother, younger sister, and myself, as well as our 3 dogs and 1 cat at the time. I went to a school counselor because like all kids that age, you automatically think it's your fault. Soon enough my brother moved in with my father, and we lost our pets and the house that was in our family for generations.
My mom remarried and that was almost 12 years ago. After attending three high schools, and overcoming bullies, I graduated from Marlboro High School, but I decided I was going to take some time off before entering college. In 2004 I tried my hand at Brookdale Community College and come 2012 I had an A.A degree in Liberal Arts, and one in Creative Writing. Through serious research, and soul searching I decided my passion was always writing and enrolled at Southern New Hampshire. I will finally hold a B.A degree in Creative Writing next spring!
Throughout the years I've dabbled in preschool teaching, acting, directing, and even volunteer firefighting and wild land forest firefighting. I wrote for my community college's newspaper, and followed through with my journalism when I wrote for "Examiner" and "Living in Media." My writing consists of science fiction and fantasy novels, screenplays, and some poetry. I'm currently working on several writing projects, as well as a comedy script.
I'm sure any person would wonder how I got through it all, or why I didn't let it tear me to shreds. I chose to take my experiences and learn from them, not let them get me down. I've lived through a lot, as many people have, but it's what we choose to do with our life rather than let it happen that makes all the difference.
If any of this raises questions, or you just want to know more, please comment and I would be happy to respond.
